About
The Good Neighbor Alliance (GNA) was started when there was an identified gap in the safety net in Sierra Vista and surrounding communities, with assisting homeless men, women, and families with children. Pastor J. David Barkley and the members of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church organized GNA to help this underserved population. GNA was incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit organization in September 1998.
GNA opened the doors of Samaritan Station, our nighttime shelter, on January 16, 2003. In 2022, we have received grant monies to add a Day Program for our guests to stay at the shelter during the day.
In December 2005, we opened our commercial kitchen to provide meals to our guests staying at the shelter, as well as additional meals for our unsheltered community members when available. To date, with the help of volunteers from our community, we have served over well over 15,000 meals.
