COCHISE C DEPUTY COUNTY SHERIFF ASSOCIATION Cochise County Deputy Sheriff's Association Here are the reasons we support the Jail District Tax For 7 years, Sheriff Mark Dannels and Jail Commander Kenny Bradshaw have been asking the BoardSupervisors for help. The almost 40-year-old Jail has outlived its designed life The Jail District will: expectancy and capacity: o Constructed in 1985 and intended to last only 20 years. o The original maximum population was set at 168. o It now houses a population of up to 302. The almost 40-year-old building is significantly outdated and faces significant concerns: o Overcrowding o Inadequate Power o Plumbing problems o Leaks o Technological problems o Other costly repairs A new modern facility will: o Increase staff and inmate safety o Allow law enforcement to safely house people who pose a threat or danger to our community and the general public. o Increasing County sales tax by ½/2 cent, from .5% to 1% o o Last for no more than 25 years. Spread jail construction, maintenance, and operations costs to everyone (not just residents) engaging in commercial activity within Cochise County. o Helps us keep your community safe o Help to ensure the safety of Detention Officers o o Services for the mentally ill Help personnel manage ongoing medical and drug addiction needs State Rep.
